Our ongoing Projects

Project JEEVAN UDAAN - A Policy-Driven Initiative for Urban Slum Upliftment

In collaboration with Hansraj College, Bharatiya Neeti Samvad Kendra (BNSK) has initiated Project JEEVAN UDAAN under the Joint Research Consortium, aiming to address the socio-economic challenges of urban slum communities in Delhi NCT. This initiative integrates evidence-based policy research, sustainable development strategies, and a multidisciplinary approach to drive impactful policy interventions.

The project employs a secondary insights-based policy talk series, fostering academic discourse and expert-led discussions to assess existing government policies on urban slum development. By bridging Vedic wisdom with modern technology, it seeks to develop comprehensive, data-driven solutions that enhance governance, infrastructure, and social welfare in marginalized communities.

A dedicated team of BNSK researchers is engaged in critical analysis of policy frameworks, identifying structural gaps and proposing actionable recommendations for urban resilience, inclusive growth, and sustainable transformation. Project JEEVAN UDAAN aspires to serve as a model for evidence-informed policy reform, ensuring equitable development and long-term community empowerment.

2. Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihood Research

The Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihood Research (CESLR) is a joint initiative of Bharatiya Neeti Samvad Kendra (BNSK), New Delhi, and the Department of Political Science, Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP), Ananthapuramu. It is envisioned as a premier interdisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing sustainable and inclusive development in India’s rural and tribal regions. CESLR aims to bridge the gap between

grassroots realities and national policy frameworks through evidence-based research, field innovation, community participation, and capacity building. Rooted in India's constitutional ethos and traditional wisdom, the Centre strives to empower marginalized communities by co-creating locally relevant and scalable solutions to persistent challenges.

The Centre’s key focus areas include: Sustainable Livelihoods and Rural Economy (such as agroecology, micro-enterprises, and forest-based livelihoods), Tribal and Rural Governance (including Panchayati Raj, PESA implementation, and legal empowerment), Public Health and Education Access (with emphasis on inclusive health systems, traditional medicine, and educational equity), Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability (covering natural resource management, disaster adaptation, and water-energy security), Cultural Heritage and Indigenous Knowledge Systems, and Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion. By nurturing field-based learning and dialogue, CESLR seeks to emerge as a lighthouse institution for research-driven transformation and policy innovation in line with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

See What We are Addressing

Here is a powerful collection of photographs captured by our Research Interns from diverse regions across India, showcasing the realities of rural and tribal livelihoods alongside urban slum life. Each image tells a compelling story, amplifying unheard voices and driving the vision of an inclusive and empowered Bharat.

Dhokra Art Village Naugaon Condition - reported by BNSK Bharat

This photograph from Dhokra village (Nuagan), Dhenkanal, Odisha, highlights the reality of early marriage in rural areas. This young girl, now a mother of two, has stepped into adulthood too soon. At an age when she should be learning and exploring the world, she is managing a household and raising children. Her childhood was cut short by societal norms, leaving her with responsibilities beyond her years. This image reminds us of the lost dreams of many young girls whose futures are decided before they can even dream for themselves.

This photograph from Dhokra village (Nuagan), Dhenkanal, Odisha, shows a woman collecting water from a community tap. For many in the village, this water tank is their only source of clean water. Unlike cities, where water flows easily, people here must wait and work for every drop. Yet, life goes on with patience and strength. This image reminds us how something as simple as water is still a daily struggle for many, but their hope and resilience help them move forward despite the hardships.

This photograph from Dhokra village (Nuagan), Dhenkanal, Odisha, shows children lost in their world of play. With no school nearby, education remains out of reach, and childhood passes without books or classrooms. Their days are filled with games, but soon, they will step into adulthood, taking on work at a young age. Their laughter today hides the struggles of tomorrow. This image reminds us of the harsh reality in many remote villages, where the absence of education forces children to grow up too soon, leaving their dreams behind before they even begin.

This photograph from Dhokra village (Nuagan), Dhenkanal, Odisha, captures a powerful contrast lack of basic facilities yet abundance of happiness. The young girl sits with her father inside their simple home, made of mud walls and a plastic-covered roof. There are no luxuries, yet her smile reflects contentment. Despite the struggles of rural life, their bond brings joy, proving that true happiness doesn’t come from wealth but from love and togetherness. This image is a reminder that even in hardship, human emotions, love, trust, and resilience can create a world full of warmth and hope.

This photograph from Dhokra village (Nuagan), Dhenkanal, Odisha, reflects the harsh reality of survival in rural India. Families live in makeshift homes with fragile roofs and mud walls, offering little protection from nature’s forces. Basic facilities like clean water, healthcare, and proper sanitation are missing. Yet, despite these challenges, the people here continue to push forward, finding ways to survive with what little they have. Their resilience is a testament to human strength, but their struggles highlight the urgent need for better living conditions.
